Mechanical

SUBPUMP  is a service orientated corporation that is able to receive, evaluate, and repair mechanical seals in a timely and economical fashion. Once completed and the seal is back in our customers hands it will perform just like it was new.

Mechanical seals are often perceived as very simple pieces of equipment. Though individually the parts of a mechanical seal are simple; springs, o-rings, set screws, rotary faces, and stationary faces, collectively each piece is carefully dimensioned and engineered to work perfectly together. There are many facilities throughout the United States that repair mechanical seals based solely on the principal that the individual parts are simple. The companies who realize the engineering behind these parts have only the confidence to replace broken parts with identical new parts. If the seal is badly damaged they must call the original manufacturer for new parts or try and haphazardly duplicate the damaged pieces. This takes time and costs money, the two things that will limit any company in this industry.

The companies that do not realize the engineering behind the mechanical seal have very little success in repairing the seal properly and eventually very little success in this business. The staff at SUBPUMP has the education and a combined 20 years experience in mechanical seal design and application. VIP has the ability to recognize or even change existing seal dimension so that they may be repaired properly, quickly and economically. Our ability to dimension and tolerance exact replacement parts will allow us to buy these parts from a material vendor at a lower cost than others would have to pay the original seal manufacturer. If the seals need to be replaced SUBPUMP can replace the seal with an exact refurbished duplicate or one of many new seals that will work equally as well in the customer application.

SUBPUMP utilizes a wealth of engineering knowledge coupled with a complete understanding of the multitude of seal designs on the market today to give our customers the confidence of knowing that their seals are repaired properly every time. We can handle the smallest single rubber bellows component seals, to the very complex double dry running mixer seals with bearings. VIP has all of the tools to handle any mechanical seal repair requirement. SUBPUMP will be one of, if not they only, seal repair company which has the technology to design and manufacture new seals but has its focus only on repairing them.

DISTINCT COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

  • We have an extensive knowledge of the mechanical seal industry both nationally and internationally.
  • We bring strong mechanical engineering skills to the sealing industry.
  • We fill the voids in the sealing industry that our competitors are either not capable or not willing to fill.

COMPETITIVE STRATEGY

Our main focus will be to take advantage of the inability of many large seal companies to provide the superior service demanded in today’s sealing marketplace. This includes but is not limited to; speed, price, service, quality, troubleshooting, and expertis.

We will strive to be the “complete” seal repair company by offering:

  • The repair of all manufacturers seals.

WHAT IS LAPPING

Flat Lapping is an ancient machining technique. The caveman that first sharpened a stick by rubbing it against a stone covered with sand was the first to discover lapping. These days, we are a bit more sophisticated.

Lapping is a precision process or combination of processes used to provide flatness, parallelism, size and surface finishes to extremely demanding tolerances. The process is a manufacturing method that employs particles of an abrasive material to remove stock from a surface. It is comparable to sanding or grinding, except that sanding and grinding use abrasives which are fixed (bonded abrasives) whereas lapping employs abrasives which are suspended in a liquid carrier, and are free to move about. Lapping is sometimes referred to as 'Free Abrasive Machining'.

Lapping and fine grinding are processes used where the surface finish, flatness, or parallelism of the work piece must be held to very close tolerances. Lapping can achieve a flatness rating of one millionth of an inch (0.000001"), parallelism tolerances of ten millionths of an inch (.00001") and surface finishes to 0.6Ra. using special handling and tooling techniques.

Abrading Methods can achieve flatness tolerances of 12 millionths (0.000012"), parallelism of fifty millionths (0.00005") and flatness of 6 Ra on a volume production basis. We can achieve tolerances at the limits of the lapping process (down to one millionth of an inch) on a case-by-case basis.

Abrading Methods can provide lapping, free abrasive machining, flat honing, fine grinding, polishing, burnishing, precision fine grinding as well as special deburring and cleaning techniques to process your flat surfaces. With over 30 years of experience, special equipment and proprietary processes, Abrading Methods can produce flat and parallel surfaces from thousandths to millionths of an inch, in production quantities, at an economical cost.

REPAIR AND REPLACE

Sub Pump Engineering repair facility is one-of-a kind. We have made a commitment to repair all mechanical seal styles regardless of manufacturer. We repair to like-new condition. If the seal is not repairable, we will quote a new Sub Pump as a replacement or offer a range of exchange programs to suit the customer’s needs. We have designed the Sub Pump repair facility to combine state-of-the-art engineering and manufacturing capabilities. We view this commitment as a necessity to properly service our distributors and end users in today’s market. Each seal component is decontaminated and evaluated in detail: faces, secondary seals and bellows testing, metallurgical examination, drive mechanism testing, digital load testing, and critical dimensions evaluation.
